Guests connect with free Wi-Fi, but there is plenty to keep families busy, including tennis courts, an indoor pool, hot springs and the nearby ski slopes, at the non-smoking Kiroro, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Hokkaido. The Kiroro is a high-rise building with 282 rooms centered around an interior courtyard. The well-appointed rooms are done in earth tones and feature modern furnishings along with free Wi-Fi, flat-panel TVs and mini-fridges. After washing up in the marble bathrooms, guests can wrap up in the provided kimonos and order 24-hour room service. Other on-site dining venues include six restaurants with varied menus, such as Japanese and Italian fare, and a bar. Activities keep everyone busy and include an indoor pool, hot springs, children's program, tennis courts, a fitness center and karaoke. Guest laundry facilities, a business center, a 24-hour front desk and valet parking round out the perks. In western Hokkaido, the Kiroro is nestled near the foot of the mountains in the Yoichi District. The resort runs a shuttle to the nearby ski mountain, and for family-friendly spots, guests drive north 45 minutes to the Otaru Aquarium. For more activities, Sapporo is an hour east and offers the Mt. Okura Observatory, Moerenuma Park and the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building. Spend some time outdoors at the Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park, an hour-and-a-half away, or step back in time at the Historical Village of Hokkaido, just over an hour's drive. The closest airport is New Chitose Airport, 66 miles southeast, and to catch a train, guests drive 17 miles to Otaru. The Kiroro impresses our guests with the many types of food at the restaurants, the proximity and shuttle service to the mountain and the attentiveness of the staff.
